"Today's Readers are Tomorrow's Leaders"

What Teachers are Saying
Thank you so much for adding to and enhancing the education of our children. Being able to have The Albany Herald newspaper as a resource has been a joy and an educational experience for my students. At the beginning of the school year my students did not even know how to find the Editorial page or any other page of the newspaper. Due to and because of you, they are now more savvy and smart with their use of the paper. The Albany Herald has become a tool and a resource that we use daily in our Georgia Studies class. Even more the students have become accustomed to it and look for the paper every day ...
Again, thank you so much for the opportunity you have provided us with and to the sponsors of the Newspapers for Knowledge program. Your cooperation, consideration and effort is greatly recognized and appreciated.

"The Newspapers for Knowledge program is good because it allows all of the students to have a paper of their own." |
Thank you for the papers we are receiving through the Newspapers for Knowledge program. We’re working on nonfiction, and the papers have proven to be another excellent source for nonfiction.

"We take good care of the newspapers we get each week. If you keep sending the papers we’ll keep giving you a report about them." |
We use our Newspapers in the classroom. There are interesting articles on science as well as a couple of article on parental involvement which is an important part of our program. Beside me our students also enjoy reading the sports section and other teachers use the Newspapers in their classroom also. Thanks a bunch and keep them coming.

"The newspaper really helps us out with our grades. Reading the paper teaches us about history and other types of skills. We are able to find out what is going on in the world." |
Thank you for allowing us to be a part of the Newspapers in Education program. Having newspapers in the classroom allowed the children to learn how to read the entire paper. Some children favored the sports section and some liked the sales papers. All in all, it promoted teamwork among the students, especially on the days they had the kid's page. They learned about current events, as well as foreign affairs, and some even read the "Squawk Box." (I suppose they got that from their parents.)
The newspapers in the classroom were very beneficial to me as part of my program curriculum. Some days when children would not pick up a book to read, they would open the newspaper. To me, that's what it's all about ... literacy in the classroom. I believe that if a child can read, he/she can go farther than money will ever take him/her.

"Thanks for the awesome newspapers that you send the students, it helps us to realize things that are going on in the world. Using the newspaper shows me who may be the next president. We learned about local people and that our taxes are going up." |
I'm Sandy Bamford and work with Dougherty County Even Start. The papers we receive each day provide wonderful resources for our students. They not only use them for reading, but also for job searches, finding shelter, best grocery bargains, etc. The newspaper enhances our adult education and help our students to be more civic minded. We appreciate The Albany Herald, sponsors for Newspapers in Education and you for making those available to our program.
