MCLB standoff suspect charged

ALBANY — The man who prompted a standoff with police at the Marine Corps Logistics Base last week, has been arrested on federal charges, court documents show.

Rodney Howard Clark, age unknown, of Albany, has been charged with disorderly conduct and possession of a firearm while at a federal facility, documents filed in U.S. District Court show.

Clark, who worked as a civilian on base, walked into the Automotive Skills Center on Dec. 4 armed with a .410-gauge shotgun, according to the documents.

The documents show that Clark was discovered by another employee who saw him put the barrel of the gun in his mouth and put his finger on the trigger.

“Stop, just leave, you don’t wanna watch this,” Clark said, according to his charges.

Marine officials called the Albany-Dougherty SWAT team to the base to conduct negotiations, which lasted for more than three hours.

Clark eventually walked out and surrendered himself to police who then took him to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for a mental evaluation.

During the standoff, a nearby barracks was evacuated and the Automotive Skills Centers was closed, authorities said.
