Evidence sought in Lee slaying

  • Investigators are searching for clues on the property of a slain Lee County man.

SMITHVILLE — The 82-year-old man found dead at his Smithville home was stabbed to death, GBI agents said.

Arthur Mosely’s body was found at his home at 104 Pettis Road by family members around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Preliminary results from an autopsy Wednesday revealed that Mosely died from multiple stab wounds to the head and chest, GBI Special-Agent-in-Charge Danny Jackson said.

GBI agents continued to search the home and the area around the home for evidence Wednesday. Agents wouldn’t say whether a murder weapon was discovered, or whether any suspects were being sought.

“It’s not 100 percent official and won’t be until the report is out, but preliminary results from the autopsy show that he was stabbed multiple times in the chest and the head,” Jackson said. “But we’re still investigating and pursuing leads.”

Anyone with information about Mosely’s death is asked to call the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 759-6012 or the Americus office of the GBI at 229-931-2439.
