Information sought in Lee slaying

• Law officers hope a $5,000 reward will bring them information that will lead to an arrest in connection with a death in Lee County in January.

SMITHVILLE — Family members of slain 82-year-old Arthur Mosely is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the man’s murderer, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Wednesday.

Americus GBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Trebor Randle said the reward money may help to flush out information from the Smithville community that they believe is lurking there.

“We feel like we’re this close,” Randle said Wednesday in a telephone interview. “The information is right there in the community. People are talking, they just haven’t come forward to get the information to us.”

Mosely, who lived by himself, was found stabbed to death in his Pettis Road home by family members at about 9:30 a.m. Jan. 15. Autopsy results showed he had received several stab wounds to his head and chest.

“He probably would have lived for another 20-plus years, but for somebody to cut him down like this before his time is very sad,” Randle said. “We are very eager to put this person or these persons behind bars and we feel we are very close.”

“Mainly ... we want to bring some closure to the family in this case. Especially since they’ve been very involved from the beginning,” Randle said.
