Man arrested in connection with shooting

  • One person has been arrested in connection with a shooting and robbery at an Albany apartment, police records show.

ALBANY — A man was shot in the leg during a robbery early Wednesday morning, police officials said.

Romal King, 26, of Albany, was treated and released from Palmyra Medical Centers after being shot in the leg with a pistol at an apartment on the 800 block of West Lincoln Avenue, police reports show.

Donald Winchester, 22, has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault, four counts of armed robbery and one count of burglary, jail officials said.

King, 23-year-old Crystal Roberts, 25-year-old James Hightower and 42-year-old Ivey Hampton were robbed at gunpoint after a knock at the door just before 1 a.m. Wednesday morning by two masked men, according to police reports.

According to the report, the men took two cell phones, a couple of gold rings and more than $80 in cash before fleeing.

Just before 1:15 a.m., police responded to the 400 block of South McKinley after Latosha Winchester said that her cousin, Donald Winchester, had been jumped by a group of men, the report says.

But when police made contact with Donald Winchester in the back bedroom of the home, they found him uncooperative and trying to make himself throw up, according to the report.

Donald Winchester was carried by police back to the scene of the shooting and then to the Law Enforcement Center, where he was interviewed and arrested.
