Carolyn Lott named colonel

ALBANY – Carolyn Gibson Lott, the wife of Albany City Manager Alfred Lott, has been promoted to the rank of colonel in the U.S. Army.

The Milwaukee native was promoted during recent ceremonies in Atlanta. While serving in the U.S. Army Reserves, Lott served as civilian director of logistics for the Army Corps of Engineers, North Atlantic Division, from 1994-99. She is currently employed with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at Goddard Space Flight Center as a contracting officer technical representative.

Lott attended the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh where she earned a bachelor of science degree in physical education in 1981. She also completed the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps.

During the next 26 years she served throughout the world including Germany, Turkey, Iraq, Wisconsin, Virginia and Maryland. She has served in numerous active duty assignments including mobilization during Operation Provide Comfort. She was a logistics officer for the 21st Theater Army Area Command Task Force, a component of Desert Storm.

Lott also mobilized to New York City to support relief efforts after the Sept. 11 attacks. She is now a logistics officer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Lott has received numerous military decorations including Southwest Service Medal with a Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Armed Forces Reserves Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Joint Meritorious Unit Award and the Army Superior Unit Award.

Lott is the daughter of Nathan Gibson and the late Helen Gibson.
