Murder suspect arrested in Florida

  • An Albany murder suspect was arrested in Florida thanks to a tip from a confidential informant, authorities said.

JACKSONVILLE — Jarvis Yarn, accused by police for killing a Hispanic man during a home invasion robbery, was arrested Tuesday in Jacksonville, Fla., authorities said.

Yarn, 19, is accused of killing Manuel Salazar Montanes, 28, during an armed robbery at Montanes’ home at the Westwind Apartment Complex on the 2400 block of Dawson Road on March 7.

According Capt. Craig Dodd with the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office, Yarn was arrested by SWAT team members after Dougherty County Investigators received a tip from a confidential informant that Yarn was hiding out in Jacksonville.

“We got the call around noon and immediately began working on it,” Dodd said. “We called homicide investigators with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and asked if they would go serve the warrants for us.”

Dodd said he got a phone call from an investigator shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday saying that Yarn was in custody.

“It turned out real well,” Dodd said.

According to police, Montanes was shot and rushed to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital where he later died.

The day after the shooting, police charged three teens — La’Kesha Na’cole Flewellen, 18, Nicole Ne’Tasha Brown, 19, and Kyinde Bellamy, 16, were each charged with three counts of being parties to the crime of aggravated assault and armed robbery.

Detectives said that the robbery could’ve been a setup planned by the four suspects and could have involved prostitution.
