Murder suspect awaits extradition from Florida

  • Jarvis Yarn was wanted in connection with the March 7 shooting death of Manuel Montaines, police officials say.

JACKSONVILLE — The person police believe killed a Hispanic man during an armed robbery is awaiting extradition from a Jacksonville, Fla., jail, authorities said.

Jarvis Brendan Yarn, 19, of Albany, was arrested by the County Sheriff’s SWAT team in Jacksonville at the Victory Pointe Apartment complex around 6:10 p.m. Tuesday, booking documents show.

Yarn, 19, is accused of killing Manuel Salazar Montanes, 28, during an armed robbery at the Westwind Apartment Complex on the 2400 block of Dawson Road March 7.

Investigators with the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that they got a tip from confidential informant that said that Yarn may be hiding out in Jacksonville, Capt. Craig Dodd said.

DCSO notified authorities in Jacksonville who set up the operation to capture Yarn, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Melissa Bujeda said.

“With any high profile arrest or someone wanted for murder, we call out our SWAT team to make the arrest,” Bujeda said. “He was arrested without incident.”

Yarn was taken to the homicide office at Jacksonville’s Police Memorial Building where he was interviewed by Dougherty County investigators, Bujeda said.

After his interview, he was taken to the Duval County Pre-trial Detention Center, where he is awaiting extradition, booking documents show.
