ALBANY — Mr. Thomas Cooper, 71, of 1301 S. Lee St., Albany died April 14, 2008 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. the family of Mr. cooper will receive friends and relatives at the home of his sister, Mrs. Anna P.Cooper of 1304 S. Lee St., Albany. Funeral arrangements to be announced.

Morton Daniel

ALBANY — Mr. Morton Daniel, 71, of 2047 N. Riverview Circle, Albany died April 9, 2008 at his home. Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Tuesday at Union Baptist Church, 214 East Oglethorpe Blvd., Albany with interment in Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery. Rev. J.A. Severson will officiate.

Mr. Daniel was born March 22, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA. He attended Philadelphia Co. Public Schools, he was retired from the US Air Force as a Technical SGT. and was a member of Union Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Mr. Jacob B. Daniel (Kenyetta) of Albany, five daughters, Mrs. Florence Randolph (Rev. William, Jr.) of Yellow Springs, CO., Mrs. Velma Jones (Lavelle) of Lake City, FL., Mrs. Rethema Hardy (Jeffery) of Leesville, LA., Mrs. Nikita Nowden (Raymond) of Jonesboro, and Mrs. Bridget Momodu of Albany, his mother, Mrs. Gertrude Merritt of Philadelphia, PA., four sisters, Joyce Cooper, Lucille Thornton, Sandra Countley and Vanessa Williams.

The remains of Mr. Daniel will be in the church on Tuesday from 10 A.M. until funeral hour.

Velma Elizabeth Gordon

ALBANY — The funeral service for Velma Elizabeth Gordon, 93, of Leesburg, who died Thursday, April 10, 2008 at Phoebe Worth Medical Center, will be conducted Wednesday, April 16 at 10:00AM at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church. Father Raymond Levreault will officiate. Interment will follow in Leesburg Cemetery.

A native of Elkhart, Iowa, Mrs. Gordon moved to Albany in the late 1950’s. She was a crossing guard for the Dougherty County School System and was a member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church for fifty years.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Poole, a son John Gordon and his wife Beverly, all of Leesburg, five grandchildren, Brendy and James Gordon, Kayla, Cody and Chad Poole and his wife Tasha, five great grandchildren, two brothers, Henry Volz and his wife Phyllis and Bernard Volz and his wife Alverta, three sisters, Betty Wines, Mary Volz and Sabina Volz all of Des Moines, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.

A rosary will be held today from 6:30 P.M. with visitation to follow until 8:30 P.M. at Mathews Funeral Home.

Benjamin Everette Lane

ALBANY — Mr. Benjamin Everette Lane 41, of 2622 Pine Valley Rd. in Albany died April 13, 2008 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service will be Wednesday 11AM at Kimbrell- Stern. Dr. Timothy S. Lane and Dr. William E. (Butch) Knight officiating.

A native of Sylvania, GA, Mr. Lane has lived in Albany most of his life where he was a member of First Baptist Church and attended Westover High School and Albany Technical College. Mr. Lane was the owner of Durango Painting Co., a commercial painting Company in Atlanta. He loved music, decorating his house and working in the yard. Most of all he loved his loyal friend and companion, his white Labrador retriever ”Sugar.”

Survivors include his parents, Clyde and JoAnn Lane of Albany, sister, Brooke Geissler and her husband Bill of Arnoldsville, GA, brother, Tim Lane and his wife Barbara of Jenkintown, PA, nieces and nephews, Lane and Emily Geissler, Hannah, Timothy, Kathryn and Benjamin Lane, numerous aunts and uncles, his loving and devoted pet ”Sugar”.

The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at Kimbrell-Stern, and will be at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Lane 2318 Meadowbrook Ln., Albany, GA 31707

Anna Barbara Turner Moore

ALBANY — The funeral service of Anna Barbara Turner Moore, 69, of Morgan, GA, formerly of Albany, who died April 12, 2008 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church. Rev. Jackie Williams and Rev. L.B. Ingram will officiate. Interment will follow in Cordray’s United Methodist Church Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers; Alex Turner, Tony Turner, William Perryman, Carl Sizemore, Jr., Rany Allen, Shane Roney, Neal Roney and William Sheffield, Jr.

Mrs. Moore was born and raised in Calhoun County, GA. She moved to Albany when she married her late husband, Alma Ashley Moore and returned to Calhoun County to live in 1982. Mrs. Moore was a homemaker, an avid embroiderer and was a member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann Turner Simpson and her husband, Jerry of Morgan and Emily Hazel Moore and her husband, Aaron Wells of Winnsboro, TX, her brothers and sisters, John Turner of Lee County, Luke Turner and his wife, Barbara, of Morgan, Lucille Bowman and her husband, Bud, of Albany, Beatrice Allen and her husband, Jimmie, of Lee County, Bettie Sheffield and her husband, Edward and Louise Roney and her husband, Roy, all of Edison and Berthalene Schwartz of Auburn, WA, W.D. and Jeanie Turner of Albany, two sisters, Frances Turner of Leesburg and Faye Turner and her husband, Larry Knight,of Worth County, a brother-in-law, Loren Turner of Morgan, her grandchildren, Robby W. Simpson and his fiancee, Shelby Rider of Lee County, Laura Simpson McNease and her husband, Brandan of Colquitt, Haley Marie Rogers, Garrson Dwayne Rogers and Austin Joe Ray Wells all of Winnsboro, TX and two great-grandchildren, Graycee Lauren McNease and Ryles Gray McNease and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bobby Turner and James Turner, her sisters, Martha Turner and Ossie Mae Frazier and a grandchild, Brittany LeAnn Rogers.

Tyler Liston Thomlinson

ALBANY — Mr. Tyler Liston Thomlinson, died Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

His funeral service will be Tuesday 1 p.m. at Radium Springs Baptist Church, with interment in Crown Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Carl Dunn will officiate.

A native of Key West, FL, Mr. Thomlinson had lived in Albany and graduated from Dougherty High School in 1976 but had resided in Mitchell County for the past 23 years and was employed with Proctor and Gamble for the last 29 years. He was a member of Radium Springs Baptist Church, were he was a deacon and a member of the Young Adult Sunday School Class. Mr. Thomlinson loved his family and restoring cars. He was preceded in death by his mother, Julia McClam Thomlinson, brothers, Timothy Thomlinson and Judson Thomlinson.

Survivors include his wife Dale “Dee” Thomlinson, of Mitchell County; sons, Sam Thomlinson and Christopher Thomlinson; and a daughter Anna Lee Thomlinson all of Mitchell County; his father, Dr. C.E. Thomlinson, brother, Christopher Thomlinson, of Suches, GA.

The family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. (today), April 14, 2008 at Kimbrell-Sterns Funeral Directors.
