Jean Greene

ALBANY — Jean Greene, 81, of Albany, died Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Lee County Health Care.

Her funeral service will be Monday 2 p.m. at Kimbrell-Stern with entombment at Crown Hill Mausoleum. The Rev. Dr. Bill Frye and the Rev. Billy D. Hanna will officiate.

Born in Clayton, AL, she was the daughter of Scnie (Senie) Williams. Her father died in a plane crash when she was three years old. She married Bobby Lee Greene of Cuthbert, GA, and was a devoted wife for over 50 years till his death in 2006. She was a charter member of the First Freewill Baptist Church of Albany and taught Sunday School. Mrs. Greene worked at the Arctic Bear on Slappey Drive for 42 years. She also worked many years as a school crossing guard serving at several intersections, but mainly at Slappey and Highland. Mrs. Greene was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, enjoyed playing ladies softball, bowling, and square dancing. She was involved in the lives of her children, serving as a PTA mom and scout leader.

Mrs. Greene is survived by three sons, Jimmy L. Greene, Ray Greene and his wife Yvonda, both of Albany, and Sgt. Paul K. Greene and his wife Vera, Warner Robbins, GA, now serving in Kuwait; a daughter, Jean Greene Housley, of Albany; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Eunice Greene; and a very dear friend, Nikki Daniels.

The family will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern today (on Sunday) from 7-9 p.m.

ALBANY — Doris King, 75, of 707 Sackman St., Brooklyn, NY, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22 at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, with burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery.

Beverly Tolbert Martin

ALBANY — Beverly Tolbert Martin was born July 29, 1961 to Wylene Wheeler Tolbert and the late Earnest C. Tolbert. She attended Dougherty County Public Schools and graduated from Monroe High School in 1979. She graduated from Albany Technical College in 1983 where she majored in Early Childhood Development. Early in life, she dedicated her life to Christ. She was an active member of First Mt. Olive Baptist Church and later joined Words of Restoration Church of God in Christ where she was active youth leader. Sister Martin was a daycare instructor at various locations for over 20 years. She was called home and freed from the worries of this world on Friday, April 18, 2008.

Survivors include her husband, Gregory Martin; daughters, Bernecia Tolbert, Wylene Tolbert; sisters, Yvonne Sherman and husband Roy, Albany, Sherita Tolbert Kelly of Albany; brothers, Marvin Tolbert, Albany, Harrison Tolbert and wife Jacquelyn, Augusta; several nieces, nephews, God children and a host of other family members and friends.

Her memorial service will be 1 PM Tuesday, April 22 2008 at Words of Restoration Church of God in Christ. Rev. James McBorrows and Dr. Oscar Benton, officiating.
