Carter commemorates Mother’s Day

  • The former president will share childhood memories during a Mother’s Day Celebration Saturday.

PLAINS — Former President Jimmy Carter will lead a tribute to Mother’s Day this weekend.

The free event will start at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Plains High School Museum.

The celebration will feature Carter leading a tribute to his mother, Lillian Carter.

“Be present while President Carter recalls fond childhood memories and shares cherished stories of his childhood and relationship with his mother,” states a news release.

Afterward, Carter will sign copies of his book, “A Remarkable Mother.”

“Due to time constraints, there will be a three-book-per-person limit and no other items, including photographs, will be autographed,” the release states.

In addition, the Plains Depot will be open.

“The Plains Depot served as the 1976 presidential campaign headquarters and exhibits presently highlight President Carter’s political campaigns,” the release states.

For visitors wanting to delve even further into the former president’s history, the Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm will be open to visitors.

“Visitors may experience a bit of nostalgia and learn about life in the 1930s by visiting President Carter’s childhood home and farm,” the release states.
