Racer drives students toward their dreams

  • Harold Martin to speak to Albany audiences about their engineering and life aspirations.

ALBANY — Albany middle and high school students will get some extra motivation from professional drag racer Harold Martin today at Monroe Comprehensive High School.

From 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Martin and his crew of engineers will be speaking to students, drag race enthusiasts, aspiring engineers and anyone interested about the challenges of pursuing one’s passion.

Martin said while he hopes to spark students interest in engineering, he really wants to discuss on fulfilling their life goals.

“I’m going to talk to them about having a dream and pursuing that dream with passion,” Martin said in a phone interview. “Way to often too many of us don’t realize that our dreams are possible. I want to let them know if I can achieve it, they can too.”

Martin will also be bringing the 2008 National Guard-sponsored Pontiac Grand Am and 18-wheel rig for students the community to view and see what they are like to operate.

He will also be giving away tickets to the 4th annual Hardee’s Georgia Drag, a race Martin will be competing in Friday-Saturday at the South Georgia Motorsports Parks in Valdosta.

Martin, who will also be available for autographs and pictures, said he looks forward to coming to the Good Life City.

“I’m really excited about it,” he said. “I get to meet some new people and make some new friends, and hopefully I can motivate some people to start making their dreams come true.”
