The Drifters groove into Albany

  • The R&B vocal group will perform a variety of vintage hits at the Albany Municipal Auditorium Friday.

ALBANY — Southwest Georgians can step back in time this weekend as the Dougherty Masonic Lodge No. 591 presents the Drifters in concert.

Elvis Presley impersonator Todd Allen Herendeen will be the event’s special guest host.

The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Albany Municipal Auditorium, 200 Pine Ave.

Tickets for reserved seats are $18, $22 and $28. They can be obtained at the Albany Civic Center box office or Publix or by visiting www.ticketmaster.com.

The Drifters first hit the music scene in 1959 with the top 40 hit, “There Goes My Baby.”

Since then, the R&B vocal group has produced such hits as “Save the Last Dance for Me,” “Up on the Roof,” “On Broadway” and “Under the Boardwalk.”

Today, the Atlanta-based group includes Bennie Anderson, Andrew Odem, Ernell Hill, David Wilson and Atlanta native George Wallace.
