DWS golf star Ho ties for sixth at state junior championship

ALBANY — Deerfield-Windsor rising junior Collin Ho tied for sixth in the 42nd annual Georgia State Golf Association Junior Championship on Wednesday at the University of Georgia. Ho’s finish earned him the right to compete in the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match, held July 19-20 at Graniteville, S.C.

“It felt good,” said Ho, who also was part of Deerfield’s GISA Class AAA championship team this past season. “That was what I was striving for.”

Ho scored rounds of 76, 72 and 79 and finished at 14-over-par 227.

“I thought I played pretty good,” Ho said. “It was a tough course. All you could try to do was hit the greens and putt good and you would be all right.”

Knights coach Gordy Gruhl feels Ho did more than just all right for the his team.

“He had a great year for us,” Gruhl said. “As a sophomore, he and (GISA state co-medalist Ashton Pellicano) went back and forth on our team.”

If it wasn’t for a double bogey on the 14th, Ho felt he could have finished better.

“I was just 2 over going into the 14th,” Ho said. “I just need to stay calm after holes like that.”

Pellicano and Moultrie’s Clarke Hendrick tied for 61st (Pellicano 80-77-85-242, Hendrick 80-81-81-242), Tifton’s Jordan Hall tied for 21st (76-78-78-232) and Pelham’s Jesse Tillman tied for 58th (77-80-84-241).
