Peanuts capture series vs. Joes

ANDERSON, S.C. — The South Georgia Peanuts completed yet another series win against the Anderson Joes on Wednesday night with a 7-1 victory in Game 3.

Peanuts pitcher Austin Weilep got the start and recorded his fifth win of the season.

Thanks to hot-hitting by Jasha Balcom, Nick Prosise and Mike Caruso, the Peanuts led, 5-0, after two innings and never looked back. In nine contests this season, the Joes have won only one game against the Peanuts.

TITLE THROUGH ALBANY?

The South Georgia Peanuts are bearing down on a first-half championship in the South Coast League. Whether or not it happens, the outcome will be decided at Paul Eames Park.

The Peanuts begin a 15-game homestand today when the Charlotte County Redfish come to town.

Currently, the Peanuts (24-9) own a two-game lead on first place over the Macon Music (23-11). The SCL playoff system takes a winner from the first half of the season and pits it against a winner from the second half of the season in a three-game playoff.

The first half officially ends July 7 against Bradenton, in a series likely to involve at least two doubleheaders from previous rainouts.

South Georgia and Macon won’t meet again in the first half of the year. The schedule favors the Peanuts, who on top of playing at home, face league bottom-feeders Charlotte County and Anderson for six games before welcoming the Juice.
