On the road again

  • After a 13-2 homestand, South Georgia heads to Aiken for a three-game series.

ALBANY — The friendly surroundings and comforts of home will finally leave the South Georgia Peanuts today.

For the first time in more than two weeks the team will play a game on the road. They begin a three-game set today at the Aiken Foxhounds.

The Peanuts are coming off a 15-game homestand in which they went 13-2 and clinched the first-half championship of the South Coast League.

South Georgia is also coming off a first week of the second half of the season in which it went undefeated, sandwiching four wins around two rainouts.

They will hit the road to face the Foxhounds, who they just swept a two-game series against last week.

The Peanuts are 5-3 against Aiken this year, but lost two-of-three the last time they traveled to South Carolina.

A player to watch for this week is Johnny Washington. The Peanuts shortstop has excelled against the Foxhounds this season, hitting .391 with eight RBI three doubles and a home run in eight games.
