DWS golf star Ho set for Ga.-S.C. faceoff

  • Deerfield's Colin Ho starts play today in the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match.

GRANITEVILLE, S.C. — Collin Ho is enjoying the chance to compete in the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match for the first time.

At Sage Valley Golf and Hunt Club, the two-day event features the top eight boys finishers from their respective state golf association tournaments (Ho finished tied for sixth). The format consists of eight singles matches per day, with each match being one point, and both teams are awarded a half point for matches that are all square after 18 holes.

“It’s a very nice course,” the 16-year-old rising junior at Deerfield-Windsor said. “It’s pretty tough, but nice.”

Ho, who also was on Deerfield’s GISA Class AAA state championship team, is trying not to be nervous.

“I’m here to just have fun and take advantage of being here,” Ho said.

He already has a rather simple strategy.

“I just mostly want to hit greens and make pars and hopefully make a few birdies every now and then,” Ho said.

Ho is concerned about the distance on the par-4 ninth hole, but other than that, he is just ready to start playing.

“It’s going to be exciting,” Ho’s mother, Karen, said. “I took him over here, and this place is unbelievable.”
