Peanuts win series against 'Hounds

  • After losing Game 1 of their series vs. the Foxhounds, the Peanuts win two in a row, including a 5-3 victory Wednesday in the finale.

AIKEN, S..C. — South Georgia (39-12, 6-1 second half) continued its dominance on the South Coast League on Wednesday night as the Peanuts overcame an early 2-0 hole and dodged both Foxhounds threats — as well as bolts of lightning — to secure a 5-3 win and maintain their second-half lead in the SCL standings.

Just as they had done in Game 2 on Tuesday, Aiken (25-28, 3-5) jumped out to an early lead, but   the Peanuts began to climb back in the top of the third when Jasha Balcom found a one-out single to start a rally. The South Georgia center fielder advanced to second when Joey Hooft grounded to second, and Mike Caruso's single to right brought the speedy Peanut to the plate and cut the South Georgia lead to 2-1.

After a brief weather delay, things only got worse for the Foxhounds when the Peanuts loaded the bases and brought in reliever Brian Grijalva, who gave up three runs and erased any momentum the Foxhounds had early on.

The Peanuts continue their road trip today when they begin a three-game set at the Macon Music in another “Peach Series.”
