N.C. to face Puerto Rico in American Legion SE Regional title game today

ALBANY — One used offense, one used defense, but now divergent paths for both Puerto Rico and North Carolina descend upon the American Legion Southeast Regional final and a berth in the World Series.

Puerto Rico unloaded 12 hits, including five doubles, to down Tennessee, 9-1, while North Carolina’s combination of Cory Parks and Chris Henderson shut out South Carolina, 2-0, on Sunday at Paul Eames Park.

The two teams will play one game today at 1 p.m. to decide who advances to Oklahoma.

Steven Hoyle led the N.C. offense, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Both teams totaled seven hits and two errors.

North Carolina beat Albany’s Post 30, 15-4, in the first round of the tournament.

Puerto Rico right fielder Javier Rodriguez led the hit parade going 3-for-3 with two RBI. Catcher Dennis Perez also added two RBI.

Puerto Rico blew the game open with a six-run fifth inning and  Ivan Rodriguez pitched a complete game five-hitter.
