Randolph-Clay’s Peak changes schools, sports

  • Herald Super Six basketball player Precious Peak is moving from hoops to volleyball and will attend Albany St.

CUTHBERT — Precious Peak has a change of plans.

After originally planning to sign with Valdosta State to play basketball, the Randolph-Clay star signed with Albany State on Wednesday – to play volleyball.

Peak, whose older sister, Aldrany, recently completed her senior season with the Lady Rams’ basketball team, said when she met with Albany State coach Robert Skinner, who coaches the Lady Rams’ softball, volleyball and basketball teams, she stated no desire to play basketball.

“He asked me if I was sure if I didn’t want to play basketball,” Peak said. “I might wind up playing basketball down the road, I might play both. I don’t really know at the moment.”

What Peak does know is she signed a national letter-of-intent to play something.

Peak said the Lady Blazers at first offered her a scholarship but then stopped contacting her.

“One door closes, another opens,” Peak said. “I think Albany State is the best place for me because Aldrany had already played there (for just basketball) so she knows the ins and outs of everything.”

Peak played a vital role in the Lady Red Devils basketball team’s run to the GHSA Class AA Final Four, but she also takes pride in being an outside hitter.

“I played volleyball all four years,” said Peak, who was last fall’s Region Player of the Year with the Lady Red Devils.
