JORDAN GROVE TO OBSERVE HER ANNUAL WOMEN DAY CELEBRATION
On Sunday, March 17, 2013, the Jordan Grove Missionary Baptist Church will observe her Annual Women Service with the Honorable Dorothy Hubbard, the first female Mayor of Albany as the guest speaker during the 11 a.m. worship service.
Mayor Hubbard is a native of Americus Georgia where she graduated with honors from the Sumter Senior High School. She is married to Robert “HUB” Hubbard, and they have four children and six grandchildren. She is a member of First Monumental Faith Baptist Church.
She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education from Albany State College and a Master of Education Degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Georgia. Mayor Hubbard is a graduate of the Georgia Municipal Association Robert E. Knox, Jr. Leadership Institute as well as a graduate of Leadership Albany where she served two terms on the Leadership Albany Selection Committee.
The service she provided to the State of Georgia include President of the Georgia Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, Program Chair of the Southern Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, Chair of the University System of Georgia’s Committee on Admissions and Records, Chair of the University System of Georgia Committee on Affirmative Action, the National Thurgood Marshall Selection Committee/Advisory Board, the College Board Regional Committee as well as many committees in her various duties at Albany State University.
Her contributions to the community include roles with the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, the Albany Museum of Art, Past President of the Board of Directors of Girls, Inc. of Albany, Committee of 100; Zeta Psi Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., the Albany, Ga. Chapter of LINKS, inc,; Semper Fidelis Club and Chosen to Conquer, Inc.
Some of her awards include the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dream Award, the Roots of Strength Award, the 2010 Census Count Committee Appreciation Award, and the Charles T. Price Trailblazer Award.
Mayor Hubbard retired from Albany State University in 1999 as the Assistant to the President, after also serving the University as Registrar and Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs, Director of Admissions and Records, Assistant Director of Admissions, Admission’s Counselor and Secretary.
Mayor Hubbard will be embraced by other women from various churches in the community. Sunday School will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a guest superintendent in charge and a plethora of guest teachers from the various churches in the community. The public has a cordial invitation to attend.
