ALBANY — Authorities took three into custody and seized guns, marijuana and cash at about 6 a.m. Friday at 910 Riley Street.

As part of a team effort, state and local law enforcement made a sweep leading to the arrest of Derrick Green, 32, his brother Frederick Green, 29, and Erica Nixon, 23, at a three-bedroom, ranch home.

Derrick Green and Nixon were booked into the Dougherty County Jail, a jail spokeswoman said. Fredrick Green was not yet on their computer, she added, but he would probably also be booked into the jail.

“All three have been charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. There are also violation of probation charges,” said Maj. Bill Berry of the Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit. “Weapons charges could be added.”

Authorities confiscated about a half-pound of marijuana, $6,100 in cash, assorted stolen credit cards, three pistols, a Ruger assault-style rifle and a sawed-off shotgun during the arrest, Berry said.

Along with the weapons, officers found two bullet-proof vests, Berry said. One was decorated with the University of Georgia “G” logo.

“Why they were in possession of those vests we don’t know,” Berry said. “Having bullet-proof vests takes it to another level. You have to wonder what they were for.”

It was not yet known if the three had gang ties, said Capt. Mack Green of the Albany Police Department Gang Unit.

“That is still under investigation,” Green said. “But anytime we can take guns off the street, it is great. Today we took three off the street.”

Standing across the street, neighbor Peter Rollins, 24, could only mutter, “Crazy. That is all crazy. I didn’t know they were doing that.”
The sweep was part of a check on criminal probationers, Berry said. As such, it was a cooperative effort between Georgia Department of Corrections officers, Berry’s unit, the Albany Police Department, the Dougherty Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s office and the Dougherty County Sheriff’s office.
