The new GHSA classifications were announced Wednesday, though Southwest Georgia wasn't affected very much.

Americus-Sumter High School accepted its drop from Class AAAA to AAA for the 2010-12 school years. Dougherty, on the other hand, successfully petitioned to remain at AAA despite its student numbers leading the GHSA to originally drop the school.

Also, Mitchell County will be in Class A starting next school year after being either AAA or AA for the past several years.
