‘Nutcracker’ dances into Thomasville

THOMASVILLE — The South Georgia Ballet will present Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” this weekend.

Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Thomasville Municipal Auditorium, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, with a parade of Sweets Children’s Teat preceding Sunday’s performance at 1:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10-$15, with reserved seating available.

Directed by Leigh Anne Strickland, “The Nutcracker” will feature 60 Southwest Georgia dancers, as well as guest artists Jay Jernigan, who will play Prince/Cavalier and Megan Powell, who will play the Sugarplum Fairy, as well as local tennis pro Rob Castorri dancing the part of Mother Ginger.

Bringing the part of Clara to life will be Thomasville native Sara Whetsell, a senior at Brookwood School.
