Ex-Monroe star Gilbert receives national honor

Former Monroe High School star Dominique Gilbert, on Tuesday was named the co-NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week, sharing the honor with Gloria Brown of Trinity Valley Community College (Texas).

Gilbert became the first Darton player in school history to post 20 points and 20 rebounds in one game. In a 53-67 loss to Santa Fe on Dec. 1, Gilbert tallied 28 points and 20 rebounds. She also posted a double-double performance of 17 points and 11 rebounds in a 67-46 win over Southern Union on Dec. 4.

Gilbert averaged 17.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, two blocks and two steals a game during the past week.
