'Mill Daddy' author to speak Saturday
ALBANY -- Albany author Bill Lightle will give a discussion and signing of his new book, "Mill Daddy: the Life and Times of Roy Davis," Saturday.
The free event begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Albany Civil Rights Institute meeting room.
"'Mill Daddy' tells the story of a Baker County sharecropper who began working at the Flint River Cotton Mill in the 1930s," a news release states. "Bill Lightle tells Roy Davis' story, as well as his own adventures as a teenager working under Davis at the Albany mill in the 1970s."
Fitness trail for older adults open
ALBANY -- The Albany Recreation and Parks Department now has a new outdoor fitness trail for older, active adults at Jackson Heights Fitness and Wellness Center, located at 1100 N. Jordan St.
The trail includes a paved walking path with 10 stations.
"LifeTrail was designed specifically for older adults and provides a series of age-appropriate outdoor activities specifically designed to help maintain a maximum level of wellness, while enhancing walking routines with upper and lower body exercises," a news release states.

Freedom Singers to perform Saturday
ALBANY -- The Albany Civil Rights Institute Freedom Singers, led by original member Rutha Harris, will perform Saturday.
The concert will start at 1 p.m. at the Albany Civil Rights Institute's Old Mount Zion Church.
Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for students and free for Institute members.

ASU will present 'Messiah' sing-along
ALBANY -- The 3rd annual "Messiah" sing-along is set for Sunday.
The free event kicks off at 4 p.m. at Albany State University's ACAD Auditorium.
Under the direction of Leroy E. Bynum Jr., the sing-along will include solos and choruses from part one of the George F. Handel pieces, as well as portions of parts two and three.
Area vocalists are encouraged to bring their own "Messiah" scores or borrow them from Albany State to take part in the choruses.
The afternoon will also feature soloists from the area and Albany State students and faculty.
Members of the Albany Symphony Orchestra will accompany the event.
Lee Library hosts Christmas reading
LEESBURG -- The Lee County Library will present its "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" program next week.
The free event starts at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Leesburg Library for children up to 12 years old.
Participants are encouraged to wear pajamas and bring a favorite doll or stuffed toy for stories, poems, songs and a puppet play.

AMA presents 2nd Family Workshop
ALBANY -- Albany Museum of Art will host its 2nd Saturday Family Workshop this weekend.
The free event is slated for 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the museum, located at 311 Meadowlark Drive.
Activities will include making Christmas cards and learning to make dreidels.
