ALBANY -- Firefighters responded to a 5:05 p.m. Thursday fire call to Veolia Environmental Services off South Mock Road south of Fleming Road, an emergency dispatch supervisor said.
Four four Albany Fire Department fire trucks sat ready to fight the fire as at least one truck pumped water into a blazing two-story metal, industrial building.
A Dougherty County EMS ambulance stood by, but there were no injuries at the fire, emergency technicians said.
The metal skin of the warehouse-like structure buckled and its seams screeched as the fire inside blistered it. Smoke could be seen from miles around.
Dougherty County Police Department officers controlled traffic around the industrial area that stretched from South Mock Road east to 1515 Pecan Lane. The Pecan Lane address was given for the company office by its Web site: violaes.com.
Phone calls to the company resulted in recorded messages that the office was closed for the day.
The company Web site listed the plant as a solid waste hauling and portable toilet operation.
