The Dougherty County Commission has voted 4-3 to not send a consolidation charter to the state Legislature.
County Commissioners Gloria Gaines, Jack Stone, Muarlean Edwards and John Hayes voted against sending the charter to the General Assembly. Chairman Jeff Sinyard and Commissioners Lamar Hudgins and Chuck Lingle voted in favor.
The vote counters the one taken last night by the Albany City Commission, which voted 5-2 to send the charter forward to the Legislature. City Commissioners Jon Howard and Tommie Postell were the only nay votes.
It's unknown whether the action will kill the issue altogether. A charter merging the Albany and Dougherty County government has already passed in the state House, but has been held up in the Senate.
Updates will be posted as they develop.
