THOMASVILLE -- You've heard of a team going cold during a game, right?
What about a team that simply starts the game cold then heats up -- quite literally -- from there?
"That's what happened to us (Monday)," Randolph-Clay coach Jennifer Acree said of her girls' 72-36 win against Perry in the Bear Crawl Christmas Tournament at Houston County -- a tournament game that started with the Lady Red Devils down, 21-4, only to outscore Perry 68-15 over the next three quarters. "We were, literally, cold. I mean, really cold. The heat on our bus wasn't working and when we got to the gym, we were just cold.
"But when the second quarter rolled around, we got hot."
Again, quite literally.
Destiny Mitchell scored 24 points to lead the way, followed by Donna Jones with 16, Kenieka Washington with 12 and Asha Alexander with 11.
Randolph-Clay now advances to play either Warner Robins or Hawkinsville -- the game between those two was not over at press time -- today in the second round.
