ALBANY -- Downtown Albany the day after Christmas rang out with the shouts of "Jesus" and "Alleluia" as a prayer rally echoed through the quiet streets.
City workers closed the 200 block of Pine Avenue to traffic Saturday as the Words of Restoration International Ministries held "The Believer's Gathering" on the steps of the Albany-Dougherty County Judicial Building.
Music from a drum kit and two keyboards provided by the Lion of Judah Ministry Praise Team pushed hymns down the streets.
"We are asking God for his help in bringing our community together," said Oscar Benton, church pastor. "We are praying for family, youth and prosperity. We have to shift the city's circumstances back to those in accordance with the Bible."
The gathering of about 30 people, many from the 507 S. Monroe St. church congregation, was scheduled to last from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
