ALBANY -- Albany State University will present the next installment of its Lyceum Performance Series Sunday with Leroy E. Bynum Jr.'s faculty recital "A Poet's Love."
The free performance will be held at 4 p.m. in Albany State's ACAD Auditorium.
Sunday's recital will be held in conjuction with Albany State's 3rd annual Poetry Festival.
Accompanying the tenor will be Albany State music professor Mimi Noda on piano.
The performance will include Robert Schumann's "Dichterliebe."
"Romantic composer Robert Schumann, born in 1810, was one of the greatest composers of symphonic music, piano literature and of German Lieder -- artsongs -- of all time," Bynum said in a news release.
Sunday's selection of the composer's work will feature 16 songs set to the poetry of Heinrich Heine.
"As the texts for his beautifully fashioned songs, Schumann carefully chose Heine poems, which represent many aspects of love, from the joy it brings to tragic results of love betrayed or love lost," Bynum said.
Following a brief intermission, Bynum will go on to perform a set of songs by llate 19th century French composer Henri Duparc, all of which contain love thems.
"And I'll conclude with a set of love songs by various African-American composers who set the poetry of some of America's most famous black poets, such as Langston Hughes and Claude McKay," Bynum said.
