COLQUITT -- The second time around, Clinch County figured out the Miller County defense.
After getting shut out in Homerville earlier this season by Miller, Clinch responded with four scores including the game-winning touchdown pass from Vintavious Cooper with little over four minutes remaining.
The Clinch defense then held a final Miller County rally at midfield to earn the 25-20 win.
Cosby Salter scored all three touchdowns for Miller County (two rushing, one receiving).
For Miller County coach Frank Killingsworth, it was an uncharacteristic play from its stout defense that did him in.
"It was a night of missed tackles," said
Killingsworth. "One
touchdown, we missed tackles where we should have had the QB for a 6-yard loss. It was missed opportunities."
Miller County will enter the playoffs as the No. 2 seed in the region and will host Brookstone out of Columbus.
"The regular season is over with," Killingsworth said. "Now we are moving on to the show. This is a completely different season."
CAIRO 17, WESTOVER 7:
Kenneth Towns scored the Patriots' only TD on a 22 pass from Justin Taylor as the Patriots end their season on a losing note.
Westover finishes 3-7 overall and 1-6 in Region 1-AAA.
SEMINOLE COUNTY 56, BACON COUNTY 19:
The Seminoles' Chris Brown rushed for 201 yards and scored two touchdowns, helping contribute toa 425-yard rushing total by the Indians.
Seminole, which led, 35-19, at halftime, also had two rushing touchdowns by Antwan Buggs. Now that the Indians are the No. 3 seed from their region, they will play at Chattahoochee County in the first round of the playoffs.
One thing Seminole knows about its next round opponent is that it loves to pass.
The last time Seminole played Chattahoochee County, current Georgia Bulldog Bacarri Rambo rushed for 380 yards and scored six touchdowns in a 68-6 win.
