ALBANY -- Less than 24 hours after police issued a wanted notice for Eddie Dean Gilyard in connection with a homicide he was in custody.
"Dougherty County Sheriff's Office deputies picked Gilyard up on a probation violation at about 11 a.m. Wednesday on Clark Avenue," said Phyllis Banks, police spokeswoman. "Deputies turned him over to Albany police for questioning."
Gilyard, 41, was wanted as a person of interest for questioning in connection with the homicide of Yolanda Roundtree, 45, Banks said. Roundtree was found dead in a closet in her home at the Wild Pines complex on 600 Sands Drive at 6:45 p.m. this past Friday.
Roundtree's body was taken to Atlanta for an autopsy. No information was available on the time of death or cause of death, police said.
Roundtree's 1997 white Buick LeSabre was found about three miles from her apartment Saturday behind a home on the 1300 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. It had apparently been sitting there since the day before when it was initially reported by a resident of the street.
Police impounded the car and towed it away for fingerprint and other processing Tuesday.
