ALBANY -- Judy Bowles, executive director for Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful, said KADB is partnering with Soles4Souls, a Nashville, Tenn., based non-profit which collects and distributes shoes to those in need.
Bowles said KADB will be hosting a shoe drive throughout November in order to collect new and gently worn shoes.
"This is a great time of year to be giving," she said. "Our goal is to collect at least 50,000 pairs of shoes this month."
Bowles said the shoes collected by KADB will be shipped to Soles4Souls where they will be distributed to more than 125 countries.
"There are people around the globe that have no shoes or have never worn a new pair of shoes," she said.
Bowles said Soles4Souls donates a pair of shoes every nine seconds and in 2005 donated more than 5 million new and gently used shoes.
"The shoes go where the needs are," she said. "We are asking people to dig into their closets and find some shoes that don't fit well, have only been worn once or are out of style and drop them off at our offices."
Bowles said that they are accepting all types of shoes.
She said that shoes should be in pairs and be paired together with a rubber band. Shoes can be dropped off at KADB's offices at 2106 Habersham Road or at the Duncan D. Trash Recycling Site at 2521 Meredyth Drive during the week from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
