GBI Special-Agent-In-Charge Mike Lewis said that a total of eight shots were fired but that only three of the bullets hit Pierce, striking him in the torso as he was sitting in his pickup truck following the crash.
"He had a few other graze marks but those were the significant wounds," he said.
GBI agents have said that Pierce was shot as he was reportedly reaching for the glove box of his pickup truck, which crashed following the 20-mile pursuit. No weapon was located at the scene.
The investigation will likely be turned over to the district attorney next week who will make a determination on whether to present the case to a grand jury.
