Shanon Buie surrenders

ALBANY -- The indicted wife of the former downtown Albany manager has surrendered to North Carolina authorities after warrants were issued for her arrest, officials say.

Shanon Lavette Buie, also known as Shanon Lee, was booked into the Fayetteville, N.C., Detention Center Thursday. Local authorities have been told that she will appear before a judge today around 1:30 p.m., where she is expected to waive extradition back to Georgia.

She has been indicted alongside her husband and former downtown manager Don Buie for her alleged role in a conspiracy to defraud the Albany-Dougherty Inner City Authority.

Buie is awaiting a bond hearing Monday. He surrendered in the early morning hours Monday and has been jailed since.

The others indicted in the case, Dollar Square Owner Tim Washington and Nicole Brown, each turned themselves in and were released

on bond.

Don Buie is accused of writing ADICA checks to Brown and Shanon Buie for services they did not perform. Documents show that Shanon Buie was hired to redesign the ADICA's Web site, but many of the checks were written to Shanon Lee.

Since the Buie situation surfaced, ADICA has implemented stronger spending controls that require dual signatures by both the CEO and the chair or vice chair of the organization and the approval of the board for money spent over a certain amount.
