THOMASVILLE -- Historian Erskine Clarke will give a lecture at Thomas County Public Library Friday.
The free event begins at 7 p.m. in the library's Henry O. Flipper room.
Winner of the Bancroft prize and Georgia Historical Society's Bell prize for authoring the book, "Dwelling Place: A Plantations Epic," Clarke is a South Carolina native and professor emeritus of American religion at the Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur.
His additional books about slavery and religion in the South include "Our Southern Zion: Calvinism in the South Carolina Low Country" and "Wrestlin' Jacob: A Portrait of Religion in the Old South."
Clarke is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and holds a master's of divinity degree from Columbia Theological Seminary, as well as a Ph.D. from Union Theological Seminary.
In addition to teaching, the author has consulted at Yale University, the University of Virginia and Nanjiig Theological Seminary in China.
