ALBANY -- Havertys furniture store on North Westover Boulevard will be closing in mid-January, Havertys Vice President Jenny Parker said.
Parker said it was no longer economically feasible for the furniture company to continue business in Albany.
"Albany is one of two markets that we are having to exit from," she said.
Parker said the business, which first opened a store in the Good Life City in 1984, worked diligently with the landlord of the building on Westover Boulevard to try and find a way to keep the store there.
"Unfortunately, we were unable to negotiate terms that would allow us to stay in Albany," she said. "We hate it because we've had so many wonderful longtime employees of the Albany store that will be displaced."
Parker said 15 employees at the Havertys store will be displaced by the store closing and will have to seek work elsewhere. She said that while the storefront on Westover will not be available to Albany residents after Jan. 15, those wishing to purchase Havertys furniture pieces can still shop at the Macon or Tallahassee stores or online at www.havertys.com.
"If there is enough customer demand, we will be happy to keep delivering (furniture) to the Albany area from our other stores," said Parker.
