ABAC monthly concert set to take place Tuesday night

TIFTON -- The musical sounds of Broadway will come to the First Tuesday Concert at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

The concert will take place in the ABAC Chapel of All Faiths. Tickets for the performance can be purchased at the door. The cost is $3 for adults and $1 for students. ABAC students are admitted free with ID. Patrons of the Arts and Entertainment Series can attend at no charge.

Gary Aikens, tenor; Andrew Davidson, piano; Blane Jacobs, bass-baritone; Scott Spivey, tenor; and Susan Spivey on the piano will perform some of Broadway's most memorable tunes in the final concert of the academic year for the First Tuesday series.

Joining these artists in this concert will be the sophomore voice students of Dr. Susan Roe including Cameron Bell, tenor; Michael Johnson, tenor; Kody Jones, tenor; Erlencia Mumphery, mezzo-soprano; Ashley Williams, soprano; and Kevin Veal, baritone.

Selections at the concert will include songs from "Phantom of the Opera", "My Fair Lady", "The Music Man", "Jekyll and Hyde" and others.

The First Tuesday Concert Series takes place on five selected first Tuesdays during the academic year. Dr. Susan Roe, associate professor of voice at ABAC, directs the series. For more information, contact Roe at (229) 391-4943.

Healthier eating ideas are showcased on local menu

ALBANY -- Warmer weather's here and those heavy coats and sweaters are giving way to shorts and tee shirts, which means getting in shape is on many people's minds.

It's also a time when many people look to lighten up on the calories to help promote a healthy lifestyle. But few want to give up the flavor in the process.

Dougherty County Cooperative Extension Service's Family & Consumer Sciences is offering some help in that area on Monday and Tuesday with a pair of free Cooking Light and Jazzy classes. The recipes are especially aimed at those who have diabetes.

The presentations and food demonstrations are 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Monday at the Dougherty County Health Department and 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Dougherty County Extension Office, 125 Pine Ave. For information, call (229) 436-7216.

Central Neighborhood Watch to meet on Monday

ALBANY -- The Central Neighborhood Watch of Albany will meet at 6 p.m. Monday.

Watch officials say the meeting will be conducted at the District 2 Police Center, 1300 Newton Road.

Legion auxiliary sponsors free Easter egg hunt today

CAMILLA -- The Ladies Auxiliary of Robert Jester Jr. American Legion Post 518 will sponsor an Easter egg hunt at the post today.

The Easter egg hunt, which is free and open to the public, will be held at Post 518's 261 Martin Luther King Drive facilities. Following the egg hunt, a dance will be held at the post for children 12-under.
