Driver beaten after crashing into porch

ALBANY, Ga. -- The driver of a pickup truck was assaulted and robbed after crashing into the front of a home at 514 West Residence Ave. at about 8:50 p.m. Monday, an Albany Police Department report stated.

Jon Daryl White, 31, apparently lost control of his 1998 Chevrolet Silverado and smashed into the stairs and porch of the home, said Phyllis Banks, police spokeswoman.

Police arrived to find White and the pickup sitting in the residence's front yard, Banks said. While Emergency Medial Services treated White at the scene, he told an officer he was robbed, she added.

"He told the officer an unknown black man pulled him from his truck and struck him in the face," Banks said. "He further stated that several items had been taken from his pockets and out of his truck."

It was not known if the suspected thief fled on foot or in a vehicle, Banks said. The case remains under investigation and there is no specific suspect information at this time, she added.
