Minor league baseball team eyes Albany

Could Albany be in line for another shot at minor league baseball?

Suzanne Davis, director of the city of Albany's Parks and Recreation Department, told Albany city commissioners this morning that a team is looking at using the Eames complex in Albany on a trial basis this summer.

The team, which would be called the Albany Quails, would play as many as 40 games in Albany by renting the stadium. The city and the team could then look at a possible lease agreement for the 2011 season, she said.

"They are part of the Peach State League out of Macon," Davis said. The co-owner of the team is Bill Larsen.

The last minor league team to call Albany home was the Peanuts. The last major league affiliated minor league team was the Waves, which moved after one season.
