ALBANY -- The Albany Tech men's basketball team had to find replacements for outgoing sophomores Wilbur Lake, Dominique Polite and Waylon Jones.
Titans coach Sylvester Patterson on Wednesday felt he made significant progress toward that goal. His signing class increased to six after signing Dermund Stewart, Triquenski Hicks, Andrew Reason, Mike Cofield and Tristan Delaney.
"I feel we addressed a lot of needs for our team," Patterson said. "One of our players, Patrick Lewis, played a big part in leading his high school team to the Mississippi state tourney. He was one of those under the radar. We are extremely lucky to sign him."
Another player Patterson cited with potential is Andrew Reason from Turner Job Corps.
"He's a really good athlete and can move to the No. 3 position, even," Patterson said. "I don't know if he can handle the ball as well as Dominique could, but he can really shoot the basketball."
And although Lake will sign with Albany State at 3 p.m. today, Patterson said he feels that Stewart -- another former Turner Job Corps standout -- can fill his shoes. Jones, meanwhile, already has signed with Southeast Missouri State.
"He's a really good shooter," Patterson said of Stewart. "He lit it up when we went to see him play at Turner. We have kept our eye on him, and he hasn't disappointed us."
