LAS VEGAS -- Leesburg's Luke Bryan has been named best new artist at the 45th annual Academy of Country Music Awards. The announcement was made moments ago on the CMA TV awards show on CBS.
Bryan, who gave a shout out to his hometown, thanked his parents and said "no human" could be more nervous than he was accepted the award shortly after he and the two winners of best new group and duet performed. Bryan was the winner of best new solo perfomer and the three vied for the top prize.
Bryan recent Capitol Nashville release "Doin' My Thing" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard country album chart.
The winner was determined by voting by country music fans across the country.
