SHELLMAN -- Randolph Southern two-sport star Alex Weeks easily could've gotten a football scholarship somewhere if he wanted, having one of the best legs for a kicker in Southwest Georgia.

But instead, the member of last year's GISA Class A state championship baseball team is betting his future will be on the diamond.

Weeks signed with Andrew College late last week, and can't wait to get to Cuthbert.

"I thought about football -- I really did," Weeks said. "I just felt I wanted to pursue baseball more."

Weeks' longest FG last season was from 39 yards out and this year he is 4-2 as a pitcher for the Patriots.

Weeks says he expects to step into the Tigers' lineup right away and contribute next season.

"Depending on how fall goes, I hope to be in the starting rotation," he said. "Either way, it feels good to the weight of the decision off my shoulders."
