CAMILLA -- Want to stop Westwood's track teams?

Then don't even look at the way they dominated the GISA 3-A track and field meet Wednesday. It's a bit intimidating.

The Westwood girls crushed the field, winning 10 of 14 individual events and both relays to score a whopping 182 points. Randolph Southern was second with 67, Terrell Academy was next at 45 points and Fullington (21) and Crisp (6) followed.

The Westwood boys beat Randolph Southern 152-107 to win the title. Terrell Academy was third (54), followed by Fullington (9) and Crisp (0).

That's the way Westwood prepared to defend its state titles. Both the boys and girls have won the last three GISA Class A state team titles and will be tough to beat next week at Hugh Mills Stadium. There aren't too many coaches who can say they've won six state titles in the past three years.

"There aren't too many coaches who have kids like I have,'' said Westwood track coach Earl Ford, who coaches both teams. "It's always tough to repeat, and it will be hard to do this year. I believe the competition will be very tough (at the state meet).''

Maybe, but Ford's kids made it look easy Wednesday.

In the girls meet, Randolph Southern's Brooke Taylor won the 1,600 (6:48) and 3,200-meter runs (2:54), and Terrell Academy's Emily Carlson won the 100-meter (13.16) and 200-meter event (13.16), and Westwood won everything else.

Westwood's Virginia Vereen led the way, winning the high jump (4-8), the 100 hurdles (17.93) and the 300 hurdles (51.06), and she was on both winning relay teams. Hope Bailey won the long jump (14-6 1/2) and triple jump (29-9) and was on both relay teams, and Kaitlyn High won the shot put (33-4 1/4) and the discus (105-7). Toni Hall and Miller Singleton shared the pole vault title (6-3) and Claire Collins won the 3,200 (15:09).

The Westwood boys were led Mason Worsham, who won the triple jump (39 1/4) and the long jump (19-8). Riley Anderson won the pole vault (9-0), Jake Kotter won the 1,600 (5:23) and Mitch Bernier won the 800 (2:17). Westwood's 4x400 relay team of Jake Edore, Ethan Lambert, Kotter and Anderson won in 3:36.

Randolph Southern's Robert Melton won the high jump (6-0) and the 110 (16:53) and 300 hurdles (43.82), and Randolph Southern's Dillon Thorpe won the 200 meter dash (23.58). Terrell Academy's Nick Beaver won the shot put (42-4 3/4) and the discus (122-10), and the Eagles also saw Levi Griffin win the 400 (54:34) and Cole Byrd win the 100-meter dash (11:15).
