Tifton to host truck pull

ALBANY, Ga. -- Sounds of roaring engines, smoke and dirt will accompany the Tifton Truck and Tractor Pull Friday and Saturday night at the American Legion Fairgrounds in Highway 82 East in Tifton.

Tifton Truck and Tractor Pull Coordinator Tyron Spearman said event spectators can expect to see tough competition between the different makes and models of tractors and trucks.

"It's going to be two nights of a lot of good country fun," he said.

Gates open at 5 p.m. and the pull starts at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at the American Legion Fairgrounds in Tifton. Admission to the event is $12 for adults and $5 for children under 10.

The event, which is sponsored by the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League and the Southern Pullers Association, will feature truck and tractor pullers from across the Southeast who will compete for Southern Pullers Association Championship points and prize money.

In addition to the professional class of pullers, Spearman said the pull will offer the chance for amateurs to try the professional sled. Amateurs will have a shot at trying to pull the professional sled on both nights of the event.

New to the event this year is Chaos, a life-like mechanical bull that is suited for anyone ages 3 and up to ride, Spearman said.

Local pullers expected to compete in the event include James Hester of Chula, Alan Parish and Ricky Tawzer of Ty Ty, and Roy Everett of Doerun. The Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Ag Equipment Technology Club's tractor, "Cracker Jack," will also compete in the contest.

The Tifton Truck and Tractor Pull is coordinated by the Ag Equipment Technology Club at ABAC with proceeds going to fund the club's scholarships and for building a new pulling tractor.
