Lee Sheriff's Office plans Special Olympics fundraiser

LEESBURG, Ga. -- The community is invited to take part in a day of fun and games and help out a good cause May 8 when the Lee County Sheriff's Office hosts its first Special Olympics Fundraiser Festival.

Family activities like carnival games, a cake walk and a bicycle rodeo are just a few of the events scheduled for the festival, which will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lee County Soccer Field, 110 Starksville Ave. North.

Also scheduled during the day of fun are dunk-a-cop and pie-tossing-at-a-cop booths, as well as a bake sale, face painting, inflatable bouncers, food vendors and a silent auction.

Funds raised will go toward the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics, whose goal is to help bring individuals with intellectual disabilities into the larger society under conditions whereby they are accepted, respected and given the chance to become useful and productive citizens.

Participants in the bicycle rodeo should bring their own bike and helmet.
