ALBANY, Ga. -- A 69-year-old an's badly-decomposed body was found Thursday after he died of natural causes more than three days ago, Albany Police Department reports stated.
Robert Wilkerson was found dead in his duplex at 610 South Maple St., said Phyllis Banks, police spokeswoman.
"The family had been trying to contact him but they were not getting a response. He had not been heard from for at least three days," Banks said. "The family became concerned and family friend Kentori Wright came to the house to check on him."
Wright could not get in the residence and called police, Banks said. The Albany Fire Department assisted police to enter the house, Banks added.
Emergency personnel put yellow tape around the residence, donned hazardous materials suits to collect the body and finished Friday.
"The badly decomposed body and its fluids posed a health hazard to those coming into contact with it," said Emma Quimbley, Dougherty County coroner. "I didn't know the man's health history. He could have had hepatitis or any other of health problems that could compromise the people there."
