ALBANY, Ga. -- Former Dougherty County Commission chairman Gil Barrett is in fair condition in the surgical intensive care unit at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, county officials said.
County commissioners moments ago included Barrett in their opening prayer. Hospital officials confirmed he was in the unit.
Barrett, 87, served 40 years on the Dougherty County Commission from 1958 to 1998. He served as the commission chair for the final 18 years of his tenure.
