ALBANY, Ga. -- Binswanger, an international real estate organization, has announced the lease of the warehouse/distribution center formerly occupied by Bridgestone Tires at 1520 Mitchell Ave.

The 261,112-square-foot, single-story facility is being leased to National Technology Associates Inc. NTA, headquartered in Virgina, is providing contract logistical services to Marine Corps Logistics Base-Albany.

"The base is receiving a lot of equipment returning from Iraq and did not have the space on the base to handle the volume," Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission President Ted Clem said. "So the Marine Corps asked us if we could assist them in finding a suitable facility for the warehousing and storage for all the incoming equipment.

"We showed them several properties, and they settled on the Bridgestone facility."

Clem said NTA has been in the building since "the first of the summer."

NTA provides a full range of technical support services to government and commercial clients. The company consists of more than 700 full-time professionals operating in more than 20 regional offices nationwide.

Bridgestone Americas, based in Tennessee, is the world's largest tire and rubber company.

Clem said while the leasing of the facility did not add many jobs to the community, it still has an impact.

"The lease is important because it removed a vacant property from the market, but also because it helps the base fulfill its mission," Clem said. "Plus, it would have been bad news for us had we not been able to locate a suitable facility for them."
